Is iPhone suddenly hit with battery drain issues?

If your iPhone has suddenly been hit with battery drain issues, this is why

Scores of users have taken to social media to complain their iPhone has suddenly started overheating and that the battery is draining rapidly.

The cause of the battery drain seems to be the YouTube app for users running iOS 11 on iPhone and iPad.

Users have reported their devices suddenly getting very warm when watching videos and their battery draining quickly even when the YouTube app is only open in the background.

One user reported that the YouTube app used more than one hours worth of background activity despite only watching a 5 minute video throughout the day.

Other users claim their battery is being drained by as much as 20 percent from watching just 10 minutes of video. This means that a fully charged battery would drain completely from watching less than one hour of video using the YouTube app.

While it is normal for devices to get a little warm when running multiple apps, it shouldn’t be that noticeable.

Both YouTube and Apple said Monday they were working on a fix for the issue.

An update for the YouTube app was then rolled out later on Monday but the release notes made no mention of a fix for either overheating or battery issues.

The reports of battery drain is the latest in a number of problems to plague iOS 11, which some users have called the “buggiest version of iOS ever”.

Reports that the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating has been draining batteries have been from the outset. Although, subsequent software updates were meant to have resolved the issues.

The most recent problem to hit iOS 11 users affected the autocorrect feature.

An annoying bug meant that the letter ‘I’ would be automatically corrected to the letter ‘A’ alongside a symbol of a question mark inside a box.

Last week Apple released iOS 11.1.1 which fixed the autocorrect problem, but which in turn may no have brought on the battery drain issues affecting the YouTube app.
